Two Jefferson County Sheriff?s Office recruits are blogging about their experience in the 20-week law enforcement academy. They have volunteered to post blog entries regularly in an effort to provide insight into the training that recruits undergo on their way to becoming state-certified peace officers. Their blogs, believed to be the first of their kind for Colorado law enforcement agencies, are titled, ?A Day in the Life of an Academy Recruit.?
Susan Gallagher, age 26, and Anthony Scott, age 28, began blogging on Monday, July 28, just one week into their academy regimen. In the course of their five-month experience, they will undergo driving, firearms, arrest control, physical fitness and Taser training, as well as classroom studies in ethics, the criminal justice process, crime scene investigation, community-oriented policing, and much more. In addition to their accounts, the recruits will post photos that they?ve taken during training.
Gallagher and Scott each reside in Westminster and joined the Jefferson County Sheriff?s Office after leaving non-law-enforcement careers. Gallagher was a real estate agent, and Scott worked in commercial construction. Their class of 36 recruits is scheduled to graduate from the academy on December 5, 2008.
Both Susan and Anthony are available for interviews, and the media is invited to film/photograph portions of their training regimen.
