Jefferson County, Colorado ? The Jefferson County Sheriff?s Office is assisting the Mountain View Police Department with an officer involved shooting that occurred overnight.
Officers from Mountain View, Lakeside, Wheat Ridge and Edgewater Police Departments all responded to the 4300 block of Fenton St. at 2:48 a.m. after dispatch received several reports of shots fired at a party.
As the officers approached the residence they observed several shell casings and some blood on the steps leading to the front door. People inside the residence would not respond to officer?s requests to come to the door.
A Jeep leaving the area was stopped by officers from Lakeside and Wheat Ridge at the corner of Fenton St. and 44th Ave. As the officers were dealing with the occupants of the Jeep, a green Lexus drove past the officers, made a U-turn, and drove toward the officers in an aggressive manner. Police officers from both jurisdictions fired upon the Lexus as it approached them. A CSP trooper responding into the area began pursuing the Lexus as it fled west on 44th. The trooper ended the pursuit after losing sight of the vehicle. The Lexus was later found abandoned at 14th & Raleigh St. The vehicle was reported stolen from Arapahoe County.
At approximately 3:10 a.m. an adult male arrived at St. Anthony?s Central Hospital with a gunshot wound to the knee. The male was dropped off at the emergency room doors by an unknown vehicle. Jeffco is investigating the connection between the shooting on Fenton and the gunshot victim at the hospital.
Due to the unstable nature of the scene in Mountain View, the Jefferson County Regional SWAT Team was activated. Five people were eventually removed from inside the residence after the SWAT team forced entry into the quad-plex. One of the occupants, an adult male, was transported to the hospital after experiencing a seizure. The other people were taken to the Jefferson County Sheriff?s Office for questioning.
The multi-agency Jefferson County Critical Incident Response Team is investigating the circumstances surrounding the officer involved shooting. More information will be released as it becomes available.
