Re: Jefferson County Sheriff makes arrest in S. Jeffco murder

Jefferson County, Co. – The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office has arrested Andrew McClay, dob 10-28-86, for the murder of 38-year-old Nicole Burns.  The crime happened on Friday, April 24th in McClay’s apartment on W. Bowles Pl. near Simms Street.   Sheriff’s deputies responded to the apartment Friday to conduct a welfare check on McClay.  Upon entering the residence, deputies found Nicole lying on the floor just inside the residence.  She had been bludgeoned to death.   McClay, a friend of Nicole, was immediately taken into custody inside the apartment.  After a medical evaluation at a nearby hospital, McClay was taken to the Jefferson County Jail.   Sheriff’s Office investigators worked diligently through the weekend in order to determine the circumstances leading up to and surrounding the murder.  While the investigation continues it is believed alcohol may have contributed to the crime.   McClay’s first court appearance was this morning where he was advised of the charge of 1st Degree Murder.  He is being held on a $1million bond.
