Re: South Jefferson County experiencing home invasion burglaries
Jefferson County, Co. – Residents were home during three of five burglaries that occurred during the evening and nighttime hours of May 26 and May 28. These burglaries took place in the subdivisions of Columbine Knolls South and Foothill Green.
The investigation of the burglaries by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office indicates the suspect(s) force entry into the homes through a rear door, or the rear door is left unlocked. While in the home, the suspect(s) gather items that are easy to carry and possibe to sell or pawn. These include, but are not limited to, seven firearms, money, jewelry, purses and laptop computers. Two of the victims’ credit cards were used within hours of the burglaries at a nearby convenience store.
A stocky built black male, about 5’7” wearing a black “do-rag” was seen carrying guns in a park near one of the homes that was burglarized. The Sheriff’s Office was not notified of this possible suspect for several hours after the burglary.
Residents are being advised to ensure their homes are secured before going to bed. Residents also should not confront an intruder; they should lock themselves in a room and call 911. Additional security measures include motion-sensor lights, alarms and neighborhood watch programs. Weapons can be in a gun safe or safely secured. Anyone seeing suspicious people or unusual activity should immediately call the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office at 303-271-0211. During an emergency, 911 is always recommended. |
