Re: Community meeting concerning sexually violent predator

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office will host a community notification meeting on Tuesday, June 9, regarding the relocation of sexually violent predator Eddie E. Gray from the city of Lakewood.

Eddie Gray (dob 04-05-55), was released from custody on April 23 after serving five years in custody for sexual assault on a child position of trust.  Gray will be living with immediate family at 790 Poppy St. in Golden.

The purpose of the community meeting is to provide detailed information concerning the release of this sexually violent predator into the community.  The goal of the meeting is to educate the public and enhance public safety.  This meeting will be held at the Bell Middle School, located at 1001 Ulysses Street, Golden, from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m.  Due to the content of the information that will be presented, it is not advisable to bring children to the meeting.  Children under age 15 unaccompanied by an adult will not be permitted to attend the meeting.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office has no legal authority to direct where a sex offender may live. Unless court restrictions exist, sex offenders are constitutionally free to live wherever they choose.  Sex offenders are required by law to notify law enforcement of their residence, and law enforcement is authorized to share that information with members of the affected communities.  In the case of sexually violent predators, law enforcement must actively notify citizens.  In addition to this press release, a notification flyer will be circulated in the community.

Gray is a registered as a sex offender with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and will be required to re-register every 90 days.  His picture and other relevant information are posted on the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Web site at www.jeffcosheriff.com.
