Sheriff's Office seeking unusual burglar

On February 3, 2006, Jefferson County sheriff's deputies were dispatched to the 9600 block of W. Chatfield Ave. in reference to an unknown man inside a residence.  The female caller indicated that she walked into her seventeen-year-old daughter's bedroom and found a strange man attempting to hide in the closet.  The startled woman confronted the man and asked him who he was and what he was doing in her home.  The man made an excuse and immediately left the residence through the front door.  The woman followed him outside to his vehicle and called 911. 

Based upon the vehicle description given by the caller, deputies located and stopped the vehicle in the area.  The suspect, Robert Kent Peterson, dob 07-24-61, was arrested for 2^nd Degree Burglary and booked at the Jefferson County Jail.  Peterson was released after posting $10,000 bond.

After Peterson was released on February 6, investigators identified him as a suspect in an incident that took place on January 13, in which a 15-year-old female came home from school with a friend to find an unidentified man hiding in an upstairs bathroom.  After the suspect gave a similar excuse he left through the front door.  The girls ran out the back door to the friend's house and called 911.  This week, Peterson was identified as the suspect during a photo lineup. 

The developing investigation indicates that Peterson may have committed this crime many times in the past.
