Jefferson County, Co. – Over the past week, four senior citizens in the metro area have had jewelry and cash stolen from their homes after opening the door to help “neighbors.”
The “neighbors” are described as a Hispanic couple, who knock on the door and tell the unsuspecting senior citizen that they live in the neighborhood and have locked themselves out of their house.
After allowing the couple into their home, the male suspect asks to use the restroom. The female suspect continues to distract the victim while the male rifles through the other rooms in the home to steal jewelry and cash. The victims are not aware of the thefts until the suspects are long gone.
These four similar crimes have occurred in Jeffco, Lakewood and Denver.
The male suspect is described as Hispanic, 5’08” to 5’10” with a medium build. The female is described as 5’02” to 5’05”, dark hair and with a medium build. Both suspects are believed to be 25 to 35 years old. The male has changed his behavior and style of dress with each theft. He has acted polite and professional while being well dressed, as well as portraying himself as disheveled and mentally challenged.
A composite drawing of the female suspect is below.
The suspects are associated with a blue pickup truck in two of the thefts, and a 90’s model white car in another.
Citizens are asked to be careful about opening the door to strangers and to be on the lookout in their neighborhoods for strangers fitting the descriptions of the suspects.
Anyone with information about these crimes is urged to call the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office tip line at 303-271-5612.
