Lectures to address community concerns about sex offenders
In response to the present and growing concern among Jefferson County communities about registered sex offenders living in Jeffco, the Sheriff's Office will present a series of free public lectures.
Investigator Diane Obbema of the Sheriff's Office Crimes Against Children Unit is in charge of the department's sex offender registry. In her career, she has done extensive work in investigating sex offenders, specifically in cases involving child victims. She will present a lecture entitled Community Awareness: Sex Offenders on four different occasions this spring. Each lecture will run from 7 - 8 p.m., with an opportunity for questions at the end.

The purpose of the sex offender registry
Registration requirements/process
Yearly address verifications
Failure to register
Sheriff's Office online sex offender database
Sexually violent predators and community notification
What information is available and what is confidential
Personal safety/child safety
The public's rights and the offender's rights

The lectures are open to Jefferson County residents. The schedule of lectures is as follows:
