Jefferson County, Co. – On July 7, 2011 at about 2:00 p.m., the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call in reference to a man with a gun in the parking lot of The Edge Ice Arena located at 6623 S. Ward St.
It was reported that the suspect, later identified as Charles John Belter (dob 072060), had contacted his estranged wife in the parking lot of the ice arena and threatened her with a handgun. Belter left the area on foot prior to deputies’ arrival. An extensive search of the area was conducted by deputies and K-9 units, and a reverse 911 call was made to homes within a ½ mile radius of the arena. The recorded message asked for residents to stay inside their homes with their doors locked and be on the lookout for a man fitting Belter’s physical description.
At about 4:15 p.m., Belter was located by the Sheriff’s Office in Lakewood near the intersection of 2nd Ave. and Hoyt St. where he was taken into custody without incident.
Belter is being held without bond at the Jefferson County Jail on suspicion of first degree kidnapping, felony menacing, harassment-stalking, violation of a protection order, and failure to comply with probation/violation of a protection order. His next court appearance is scheduled for July 13, 2011 at 9:00 a.m.
