Jefferson County, Co. – Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies were called to Mt. Zion on August 17th at 3:20 p.m. regarding a found body over the guardrail along the Lariat Loop. The body was discovered near the roadway by two bicyclists who stopped to rest along the shoulder of the road.
The body is that of a 69-year-old male from the Denver area. His identity is known to investigators but is not being released until the coroner’s office confirms positive identification and the next of kin have been notified.
The circumstances surrounding the death are suspicious and the death is being investigated as a potential homicide. Investigators spent several hours at the scene yesterday and are expected to return to the area again today.
An autopsy has been scheduled for later today. The coroner’s office will be responsible for the specific cause and manner of death.
