Jefferson County, Co. – With almost two weeks left in the month of September, south Jeffco has experienced a 50% increase in car trespasses as compared to September, 2011. The 64 trespasses were all committed at night on unlocked vehicles, with no signs of forced entry. The majority of these were done in clusters, with 40 committed from the 13th to the 16th.
It appears that the suspect(s) are simply going down the street and trying doors. When they find one that is unlocked, they search it for valuables and are on to the next one in a matter of seconds. Items stolen include anything of perceived value: laptops, GPS units, wallets and purses, tools, cell phones, cash, etc.
The Sheriff’s Office encourages citizens to lock their cars, and to report any suspicious activity immediately.
