Billy Edwin Reid, who was arrested in May by Jefferson County Sheriff's investigators in a 1989 cold case homicide, is also suspected in the 1989 murder of Lisa Kay Kelly.
Last year, the Sheriff's Office Cold Case Unit began re-investigating the 1989 homicide of Lisa Kelly. Investigators now plan to pursue charges against Billy Edwin Reid (DOB 4-9-59), for her death. Lisa Kelly's body was found on March 24, 1989 near the Beaver Brook trailhead on Lookout Mountain. During the original investigation, Kelly remained unidentified and was eventually buried in a Golden cemetery as a "Jane Doe." In October 2005, Sheriff's investigators resubmitted fingerprint evidence, which lead to Kelly's identification. The victim's identity revealed new information in the case, leading investigators to the suspect.
Jefferson County Sheriff's investigators had already arrested Billy Reid in May in connection with another unsolved Jeffco homicide: the murder of a 28-year-old woman, whose body was found in Clear Creek Canyon in October 1989. When he was arrested in May, Reid was in the Denver County Jail on unrelated charges.
Reid is currently being held in the Jefferson County Jail for First Degree Murder and Sexual Assault for the October 1989 homicide. Exact charges are pending for the 1989 murder of Lisa Kelly.
Metro area homicide detectives are examining additional evidence to determine whether Reid may be involved in other similar crimes.
