Re: Community meeting concerning sexually violent predator

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office was notified today by the Colorado Department of Corrections that on Friday, October 6, 2006, Timothy E. Schreiber, dob 12-19-59, will be released from custody.   Schreiber has been deemed a sexually violent predator. He was convicted of the following crimes: two counts of attempted sexual assault on a child in 2000; and multiple counts of indecent exposure between 1994 and 2005, all of which occurred in Jefferson County.

Schreiber will tentatively be living in the 13400 block of West 54th Avenue. He will be required to register as a sex offender with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office every ninety days.

On Monday, October 9 the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office will host a public meeting to provide information concerning the release of a sexually violent predator into the community.  The goal of the meeting is to enhance public safety.  This meeting will be held at Drake Middle School located at 12550 W. 52nd Ave from 7-8 p.m. Due to the content of the information that will be presented, it is not advisable to bring children to the meeting. It is strongly encouraged that the appropriate sexually violent predator information and public safety information presented be reviewed with children after the meeting. Children under 15 unaccompanied by an adult will not be permitted to attend the meeting.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office has no legal authority to direct where a sex offender may live. Unless court restrictions exist, they are constitutionally free to live wherever they choose. Sex offenders are required by law to notify law enforcement of their residence and law enforcement is authorized to share that information with members of their communities.  In the case of sexually violent predators, law enforcement must actively notify citizens. In addition to this press release, a notification flier will be circulated.

It is important to note Schreiber has not yet been released from the Department of Corrections. Upon release he must report to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office by 5 p.m. where he will officially register as a sexually violent predator. His picture and related information will be posted on the Jeffco Sheriff Website at www.jeffcosheriff.com.
