Sheriff Ted Mink will recognize the contributions of citizens and deputies who exhibited bravery, selflessness and professionalism in critical situations. Some of the awards will go to:
- Deputies who pursued a suspect wanted for shooting his bail bondsman, and a citizen who helped detain the suspect. The suspect drove into oncoming traffic on Highway 285 and attempted to carjack a convertible. The driver of the convertible held onto the suspect as deputies closed in.
- Deputies who rescued a man trapped in a burning car. Three deputies responded to the scene of a rollover accident in which a car was resting on its top and burning. The deputies pulled the man by his feet from the burning vehicle as tires began to explode from the heat. They carried him to safety.
- A bomb squad member who painstakingly combed through a home rigged with explosives meant to kill intruders. The deputy, along with other bomb technicians from area police agencies, found three live devices made with grenades in a Lakewood home and remotely detonated them.
