At approximately 11:55 a.m. the Jefferson County Sheriff?s Office responded 6288 Willow Springs Drive concerning a man pointing a gun at West Metro Fire paramedics. The original call to the fire department was for medical assistance. The paramedics immediately backed away from the house and called the Sheriff?s Office. When the deputies arrived the man opened the front door, pointed a gun at the them and made threatening comments.
The deputies took cover and surrounded the house and called for the Jefferson County Regional SWAT team. While the SWAT team was providing safe cover and removing the patrol deputy from the perimeter, the man inside the residence fired out a window towards the deputies. Several attempts to talk the man out of the house were unsuccessful.
The SWAT team approached the house with an armored vehicle. While the team was deploying tear gas and smoke grenades into the residence the man continued shooting at the deputies. Several members of the SWAT team returned fire.
When the deputies got close enough to the house they could see someone lying inside. Upon entering the house the man was found to have sustained multiple gunshot wounds. A SWAT medic rendered aid until paramedics transported the man to a nearby hospital via an AirLIFE helicopter.
The Jefferson County Critical Incident Response Team is investigating the officer-involved shooting.
