The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Animal Control Unit seized 28 horses and a pot-bellied pig this morning from a property at 12601 W. 82^nd Avenue.   John McCulley (dob 070965) owns 22 of the horses, while the other six were under his care through boarding arrangements. 

Jefferson County Animal Control officers had contact McCulley several times and warned him about the condition of the horses.  Jeffco Animal Control and the Colorado Department of Agriculture determined it was best to seize all the horses under McCulley's care after several of the horses were diagnosed with varying degrees of malnourishment.  The majority of the horses will be taken to nearby ranches.  Sheriff's officials are attempting to locate the owners of the boarded animals for relocation.

McCulley faces up to 29 counts of Cruelty to Animals, which is a Class 1 misdemeanor.
