On November 6, 2007, the Special Investigations Units with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office and Lakewood Police Department conducted numerous liquor compliance checks at retail liquor establishments, convenience stores, taverns and restaurants.
The operation utilized "customers" who were more than eighteen years old but under the age of twenty-one. The "customers" entered the liquor-licensed establishments and attempted to purchase alcoholic beverages. During the operation 20 liquor-licensed establishments were visited and a total of 7 establishments sold alcohol to the under-age customers. This constitutes a failure to comply ratio of approximately 35%. Summonses were issued to store clerks and/or managers as a result of the Liquor Compliance Check Operation. The establishments were issued a summons for violations related to the unlawful sale, service or delivery of alcoholic liquor to anyone under the age of 21.
