On Saturday, March 15^th the Jefferson County Sheriff?s Office will be conducting a mobile DUI checkpoint throughout the county.  Statistics indicate that a high number of DUI arrests in Jefferson County occur in the general vicinity of the selected locations.  This will be the first DUI checkpoint in the metro area for 2008.

The first checkpoint will begin at about 7 p.m. on March 15^th and conclude at 2 a.m. on March 16^th. These times were selected because 96 percent of all DUI arrests made by Jefferson County agencies take place during these hours.  The checkpoint will be in one location for no more than 3 hours before moving to another spot.

The Jefferson County Sheriff?s Office is committed to reducing the number of drunk drivers and alcohol-related accidents in Jefferson County. ?We understand this is a very festive holiday, we just hope everyone drives responsibly.  Our commitment is to serving the public and helping to make the roadways safer?, Sheriff Ted Mink said.

The approximate locations of the checkpoints are:

·        14200 block of W. 32^nd Avenue

·        11200 block of W. Florida Avenue

·        7000 block of W. Chatfield Avenue
