Jefferson County, Colorado ? On Thursday, March 20, the Jefferson County Sheriff?s Office will host a public meeting to notify residents about a currently registered sex offender that has been classified as a sexually violent predator (SVP). The SVP, Bruce Wayne Goodrich (dob 02-26-69), was released from the New York Department of Corrections in 1995 after serving a 15 month sentence for Sexual Abuse 1st Degree. Goodrich has been living in Colorado for several years and in Jefferson County for approximately one year with no associated problems.
The purpose of the community meeting is to educate the public and enhance public safety. The meeting will be held at the Jefferson County Sheriff?s Office South Precinct, located at 8100 Shaffer Parkway, Suite 100, in the Ken Caryl Business Center, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Due to the content of the information that will be presented, it is not advisable to bring children to the meeting. Children under age 15 unaccompanied by an adult will not be permitted to attend the meeting.
The Jefferson County Sheriff?s Office has no legal authority to direct where a sex offender may live. Unless court restrictions exist, sex offenders are constitutionally free to live wherever they choose. Sex offenders are required by law to notify law enforcement of their residence, and law enforcement is authorized to share that information with members of the affected communities. In the case of sexually violent predators, law enforcement must actively notify citizens.
