Jefferson County, Colorado ? On March 19-20, 2008, the Directed Operations Unit with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office conducted numerous liquor compliance checks at retail liquor establishments, convenience stores, taverns and restaurants. This operation took place as a reminder to retail liquor outlets that it is illegal to sell alcohol to anyone under the age of 21.
The operation utilized "customers" who were more than 18 years old but under the age of 21. The "customers" entered the liquor-licensed establishments and attempted to purchase alcoholic beverages. During the operation 38 liquor-licensed establishments were visited and a total of 20 establishments sold alcohol to the underage customers. This constitutes a failure to comply ratio of approximately 52%. Summonses were issued to store clerks and/or managers as a result of the liquor compliance check operation.
