If someone tells you to "take a hike," be our guest. All 227 miles of trails in the Open Space system can be explored on foot. Our trails offer a broad range of experiences, from walks on a level, paved surface at Crown Hill Park to vigorous hikes on dirt trails atop mesas and up mountainsides.
To reduce conflicts and minimize impact to more fragile areas, Open Space provides hiker-only trails at the following parks:
Mount Galbraith Park stands alone in the Open Space system as hiker-only in its entirety. At Centennial Cone Park, open from February to November, the alternating use calendar is enforced on WEEKENDS. Hikers are permitted on odd-numbered dates, bikers on even-numbered dates. On WEEKDAYS, the trails are multiple use.
Hikers are the largest group of park users overall. Hikers can participate in sustaining Open Space by volunteering or sharing information with the trails co-op.
