Information and application for volunteering with Hiwan Homestead Museum

The vibrant history of Jefferson County comes to life at Hiwan Homestead Museum. A magnificent, 25-room log lodge is the centerpiece of the grounds. This Colorado rustic architectural classic evolved from a one-room cabin constructed in 1893. The lodge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.

Hiwan Homestead Museum became the first Open Space Park in 1973. To hear the fascinating history of this lodge, drop in for a tour during museum hours (see below) or schedule a large group tour.

Throughout the lodge are original and historic furnishings. Native American artwork is on permanent display.

Award-winning exhibits rotate throughout the year. The Jefferson County Historical Society External Link Icon sponsors these exhibits and such events as Movies in the Grove and the Outdoor Quilt Festival (Saturday, September 26, 2015 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.)

The Jeffco Outdoors Foundation External Link Icon  subsidizes student field trips as part of an active school program.

Enjoy Hiwan outdoors. Reserve the Heritage Grove Pavilion, a perfect picnic spot.
