    Park Steward

    Provide support to the Park Services section of Jeffco Open Space in ensuring clean, well-maintained and safe parks and amenities. Park Steward Info Adobe Reader is required for viewing this document

    Education Volunteer

    Whether you’d like to be indoors or outdoors, you can share your knowledge of history or nature as an Education Volunteer. Education volunteers may serve as tour guides at Hiwan Homestead Museum, Lookout Mountain Nature Center and Baehrden at Pine Valley Ranch Park. They also may support education programs for the public, whether in one of our facilities or in our parks. 

    Natural Resources Volunteer

    Be involved with raptor monitoring, monitoring butterflies and frogs, inspect nest boxes—among the many opportunities to learn and contribute.

    Volunteer Receptionist

    Assist staff by providing administrative and clerical support at our Main Office reception desk.   

    Park Host

    Provide visitor assistance, education and friendly greetings to enhance the safety, knowledge and experience of visitors.

    Park Patroller

    Provide visitor assistance, First Aid, emergency response, and promote resource protection to enhance the park visitor experience.

    Group Projects

    We will coordinate projects for groups of 10 or more people, including corporate events during weekday hours. Through forest stewardship and clean-up projects, you will build camaraderie and better parks for today and tomorrow.     Volunteer Trail Building

    "I helped make that trail." It’s part of the satisfaction that our volunteers enjoy after building and rebuilding trails. Satisfaction also comes from making social connections, exploring our natural world and learning the craft of building trails that last.

    Trail Building Events Registration

    Please register for each Trail Day individually. Volunteers who register will receive a confirmation, along with more information and instructions about where to meet.

    Arrive at the meeting place by 8 a.m. to complete registration. Projects begin promptly at 8:30. You can speed the process by completing our volunteer release of liability form Adobe PDF Icon. A parent or guardian's signature is required for volunteers under 18.

    Requirements for Trail Building

    • Be in good physical condition.
    • Be able to use a variety of tools, including shovels, picks and rakes.
    • Volunteers under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. 

    What to Bring and Wear

    • Hiking or work boots that go over the ankle; no tennis shoes or sandals
    • Long pants
    • Work gloves
    • Plenty of water (2 quarts minimum)
    • Raingear
    • Sunscreen and insect repellent
    • Toilet paper (recommended)
    • A day pack
