Volunteer
Jefferson County Open Space was created in 1972 from the hard work and vision of volunteers. Contribute your talents and energy to this vital aspect of the Open Space Program and join 400 active volunteers.
We accept applications for ongoing volunteer positions from Jan. 1 through the end of February. To familiarize yourself with the different volunteer opportunities, plan to attend the Volunteer Recruitment Open House on Sat., Feb. 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Hiwan Homestead Museum in Evergreen.
Positions include: Park Patroller, Park Host, Trail Inspector and Natural Resource Volunteer (Cliff-Nesting Raptor Observer, Avian Census Recorder, Wetlands Census Recorder, Forest Steward, Bird Box Monitor).
Volunteers also help our educational efforts at Hiwan Homestead Museum and Lookout Mountain Nature Center.
Other Volunteer Opportunities
- Volunteer Trail Days & Mini-Crew Projects
You’ll work in small groups, alongside knowledgeable staff members who guide the way. Bring a friend, family member or come alone and meet new people. Click here for more info.
- Group Projects
We welcome groups, clubs and businesses to participate in our trail work days. Or, if you have 10 or more folks interested in working during the work week, we can coordinate a small group project with you. Through forest stewardship — slash removal, firebreak clearing — and clean-up projects, you’ll build morale and better parks for today and tomorrow.
