Hiking
Taking a walk in the park conjures up many images. Visitors to Jefferson County Open Space
Parks have many opportunities to explore urban trails to high country offerings with most of the trails serving multiple uses. To ease overuse of trails, limit conflicts and minimize impact to more fragile areas, Open Space provides hiker only trails for that image of hikers on South Valley Park trail"walk in the park" experience.
Hiker only trails are provided at:
Deer Creek Canyon Park
Lair o' the Bear Park
Lookout Mountain Nature Preserve
Mount Falcon Park
Pine Valley Ranch Park
South Valley Park
Jefferson County has dedicated the entirety of Mount Galbraith Park as hiker only, the first of its kind within the Open Space system.
Hikers are the largest group of park users overall. Like representatives from the equestrian and mountain biking community, hikers participate in sustaining Open Space by becoming volunteers, voicing their opinions at public meetings and supporting representatives on the Trail Users Forum to deal with user conflicts.
So if someone tells you to "take a hike," don't be angry, be our guest.
