Biking
Jefferson County Open Space trails are largely multiple use enabling hikers, equestrians and mountain bikers to enjoy the same opportunities to watch wildlife, value nature and take in exquisite views.
Members of the biking public are represented on the Trail Use Task Force, a group that meets regularly to review the conflicts within the parks and assist in developing programs to mitigate those conflicts. Biking enthusiasts volunteer as part of the Park Patroller program to provide visitor services along the trails.
Mountain bikers continue to enjoy the privilege of riding on Open Space trails by adhering to the Trail Etiquette developed by the Trail Use Task Force. Many of the responsibilities are common courtesy...
Expect and respect other trail users
Use a friendly greeting to gain others attention...stay right, pass left
Begin communicating with equestrians at least 50 feet in advance
Be aware of your surroundings
When using ear buds, turn volume down and keep one ear free to hear others approaching
Step off the trail when using a cell phone
When possible, yield to traffic traveling uphill
Slow down and use caution when approaching switchbacks and blind spots
