Equestrian

Nothing evokes a greater sense of the west than a horseback ride along the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Jefferson County has a deep rooted history of equestrian activities and many of the Open Space trails include horseback riding as part of our multi-use standard.    Members of the equestrian community participate in the Trails Task Force and work to resolve user conflicts through management and education recommendations to Open Space.  They also participate as volunteers through the Park Patroller program and provide visitor services to our park guests.

Giddy-up!
All of our parks, with the exception of the Lookout Mountain Nature Center/Preserve and Mount Galbraith Park, offer equestrian opportunities.  Probably the biggest challenge equestrians may experience, other than the volume of people they will encounter, is parking. Many of our parks have designated locations for horse trailers to park; often they are filled with regular vehicles due to the popularity of the trails. Weekdays are recommended for equestrians to visit our parks as the number of visitors is significantly less, and parking may be less of a challenge. For more equestrian use information, see Equine Line.

Equestrian Camping
Jefferson County Open Space has provided equestrian friendly campsites within White Ranch and Reynolds Parks.  See Camping for more information.
