What is the history of Jeffco Parks?

    Answer:

Jeffco Parks was known as Community Resources until 2011. While our department is constantly evolving to better meet our commitments and the needs of visitors and customers, we build on a rich heritage of enriching life.

    • Since its opening to the public in 1975, Boettcher Mansion has provided a unique venue for weddings and meetings with its historic ambience and natural setting within Lookout Mountain Nature Preserve.
    • For nearly 100 years, CSU Extension has helped the residents of all 64 Colorado counties with education focused on agriculture, horticulture, range, forestry, water, health promotion, financial literacy, business management, community development and 4-H youth development.
    • The Fairgrounds has, since the 1950s, provided a venue for a dynamic range of events, from rodeos and sports leagues, to corporate events and club meetings. The Fairgrounds reflects the equestrian and agricultural roots of the county.
    • This year, Jefferson County Open Space celebrates its 40th anniversary. The program began as a result of a vote in 1972 to preserve open space though a one-half of one percent sales tax. Twenty-eight parks, more than 53,000 acres and 210 miles of trails later, we salute the foresight of those voters in a series of public events. Watch our events listing for details.
