Apply for Trail Stewardship Team Starting March 1

Jeffco Open Space is accepting applications from Jefferson County youth ages 14-18 years for the Trail Stewardship Team (TST) during the month of March.

The Trail Stewardship Team was created in 1975 to provide young people with summer employment opportunities in seasonal trail maintenance and construction. The work is challenging and physically demanding.

The application will be available online, from March 1 to March 31, on the TST web page.

    • Eligible youths must be age 14 to 18 and be a Jefferson County resident.

    • Applications must be submitted by March 31.

    • Selection will take place, April 4 at 11:00 a.m. at the Open Space Office, attendance not required.

    • For those selected, and who have not participated in the program previously, a mandatory orientation is on June 3 at 6:30 p.m. at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds.

    • Work is scheduled Tuesday through Thursday, from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. The program begins Tuesday, June 17 and concludes Thursday, July 31, 2014.

    • Wages are $8.00 per hour.

    • Candidates must provide their documentation of citizenship, be in good health, are responsible for their own transportation to and from the Open Space facilities each workday, be punctual, be prepared with appropriate gear daily and be able to follow verbal direction. The work is hard and demanding, but it can be fun and enjoyable, too. Each TST laborer can expect to cover 200 miles in seven weeks by hiking to and from job sites for trail maintenance.
