    Banish 'I'm Bored' Syndrome: Teen Volunteers are the Perfect Antidote


    Evergreen area teens can battle the summer doldrums by volunteering at Discovery Days: Pioneerpalooza at Hiwan Homestead Museum. Assist staff with the 2014 summer day camp program where participants go back in time to explore the pioneer history of Colorado. Discovery Days: Pioneerpalooza is packed with activities, crafts, tours and games. Campers meet Buffalo Bill and other famous people from Colorado’s glorious past and enjoy pioneer food including a journey cake for the arduous trip out West!

    With an emphasis on leading crafts, activities and games, teen volunteers are rewarded with valuable experience working with young childen in a family-friendly and educational setting.Teen volunteers must be at least 14 years old, commit to work Monday through Friday, June 9 – 13 (9:00 – 4:00 PM), and attend the required teen volunteer training. All trainings and activities take place at the Hiwan Homestead Museum. Lunch is provided.

    Hiwan Homestead Museum is a 25-room log mansion constructed in the Rustic style of architecture. It is located in Evergreen at 4208 South Timbervale Drive. Hiwan Homestead Museum is a Jefferson County Open Space facility operated in partnership with the Jefferson County Historical Society. The Museum was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.
