Jeffco Open Space Seasonal Closures in Effect

    Seasonal Closures for Wildlife

The Cathedral Spires and the Dome properties will close March 1 through July 31 to buffer a peregrine falcon breeding territory. Staff and volunteers will monitor the status and location of the nesting attempt and open portions of this property for recreation depending on the nest activity. The closure dates will be re-evaluated in early May.

At North Table Mountain Park, Rim Rock Trail will close March 1 through July 31 to buffer prairie falcon territories. In past years, two breeding pairs made use of the north and northeast facing cliffs. In addition, golden eagles, red-tail hawks, and great-horned owls have been known to use these cliffs for nests. Jeffco Open Space trails staff will be adjusting current trail repair closures to align with this seasonal closure.

Crown Hill Park Wildlife Refuge will close March 1 through June 30 to give some disturbance buffer to breeding and brooding waterfowl and wetland birds.

    Herbicide-Free Parks

South Valley Park and Pine Valley Ranch Park will be the two herbicide-free Parks for 2014. Parks users who prefer to stay away from herbicides for health or pet reasons should plan to use these parks.

Jeffco Parks is comprised of Jeffco Open Space, the Fairgrounds, CSU Extension, Boettcher Mansion and Weed and Pest. Open Space, the largest division, was founded as a land conservation organization in 1972 and preserves natural and cultural resources, provides quality outdoor recreation experiences and promotes sound environmental stewardship. Jeffco Open Space is funded with a one-half cent sales tax that has protected over 52,000 acres and created 28 regional parks and 227 miles of trails in Jefferson County.
