The rough condition of the ice at Pine Valley Ranch makes it unsuitable for skating. The lake remains open to ice fishing.
Please use common sense when using the ice rink, and do not enter the rink when the ice is slushy or standing water exists on the surface, as this ruins the ice surface for skating. Ice fishing is allowed on the lake outside of the ice rink area, with the exception of the shallow area at the west end of the lake. Ice anglers, use hand-powered augers only to drill through the ice to prevent gasoline or oil contaminating the lake. Rangers will keep the warming hut stocked with firewood for visitors to use the fireplace. Collection of wood is prohibited in the park; please use only the firewood provided. You may bring firestarters or newspaper, as kindling may not always be available.

Tucked in among towering ponderosa pines, Baehrden stands sentry over Pine Lake. The 27-room lodge was built for Chicago executive William Baehr and his family in 1927. Since acquiring the lodge with the 820-acre property in 1986, Jefferson County Open Space has worked to preserve its exterior. After extensive restoration, visitors are able to enjoy summertime tours.
