     The JCPH Food Protection and Safety Program works to prevent foodborne illness outbreaks and assure that Jefferson County citizens and visitors are provided with safe food. Staff routinely inspects food service operations, such as restaurants, delicatessens, school cafeterias and retail markets to ensure compliance with Colorado Retail Food Establishment Rules and Regulations.     According to Centers for Disease Control foodborne illnesses cause an nearly 3,000 deaths in the U.S. each year and more than 48 million illnesses (roughtly 1 in 6 Americans) per year.  The JCPH Food Safety Program works to reduce incidents of foodborne illness in the County.

    • Food Safety Forum -  The Food Safety Forum is a group of food service operators, consumers and JCPH food program staff who meet twice a year to collaborate and develop innovative strategies to reduce the risk factors associated with food-borne illness.
    • TUFFS Program - Team Up For Food Safety is a collaboration of JCPH and retail food establishments in Jefferson and Gilpin Counties. The TUFFS initiative is designed to recognize restaurants and other retail food establishments for their exceptional attention to food safety practices.
