  • Nutrition Services and WIC

Healthy eating habits and good nutrition can improve quality of life and help prevent illness and premature death.

It's a balancing act. Create a balance between the amount of calories you take in and the amount of energy you expend in your day-to-day living. Lack of physical activity and eating too much is killing us.

    Check out these obesity facts:

    • High blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, respiratory problems, osteoarthritis and premature death can result from being obese or overweight.
    • 300,000 deaths in the U.S. per year are associated with obesity.
    • Individuals who are obese have a 50 to 100 percent increased risk of premature death.

The Nutrition Education and Counseling Program works with Jefferson County residents to improve their nutrition knowledge and increase their ability to make better food choices.
