    The Journey of Quitting

Jefferson County, CO – Ever wonder why you or your loved one is having such a hard time quitting smoking, and staying quit? A group of ex-smokers wants you to know that while quitting may be hard, it is possible and absolutely worth it. These former tobacco users share their stories in a new video, “The Journey of Quitting.” Produced in partnership with the Red Rocks Community College Tobacco Cessation Project and Jefferson County Public Health the video tells the stories of 9 former smokers and their personal journeys to becoming free from tobacco.

“We hear from many tobacco users that they are so discouraged about how many times they’ve tried to quit, they don’t want to have to try again. We feel it is important to tell them the truth about the process of quitting and give them encouragement to keep working on it. The fact is, quitting doesn’t usually happen over night. It can take on average 8 to 11 attempts before most people are able to stay quit. Many people feel a relapse is a failure and don’t go back to the quitting process. It is critical that those trying to quit see these setbacks as learning experiences and not failures. It’s a little like building muscle, you just need to keep working at it,” said Jennifer Woodard of the Jefferson County Public Health Tobacco Prevention Initiative. This video talks about how to overcome the many challenges faced when quitting tobacco like; being around others who smoke, replacing that morning/evening cigarette or dealing with stress. The powerful stories shared in the video show that even though it is not easy, it is possible and there is help.

If you are struggling with tobacco or have a loved one that is, give yourself the gift of 20 minutes to view this video and learn tips and lessons from those who have been successful. View this video at: www.tobaccofreejeffco.com/how-to-quit.html.
