Jefferson County Public Library to Replace HVAC System at Golden Library

Jefferson County Public Library (JCPL) will be replacing the Golden Library heating, ventilating and air conditioning system before the end of the year. As a result, the Golden Library will be closed temporarily, beginning Friday, Nov. 4 through Friday, Dec. 16, 2011.

“We have a unique opportunity to complete a much-needed upgrade to the Golden Library this year, at no additional cost to the Library,” said Pam Nissler, acting executive director, JCPL. “The HVAC system has outlived its useful life, and we plan to replace it with a new system that will help us to capture energy efficiencies and reduce operating costs.

“Last summer, the Library undertook a system-wide initiative to improve the energy efficiency of Library-owned buildings,” Nissler explained. “McKinstry, the Library’s contractor on the energy initiative, was able to complete the project well within the contracted costs, and as a result, they have offered to replace the Golden HVAC system at no additional cost to the Library.

"While we recognize that closing the Golden Library -- even temporarily -- will create challenges for our patrons, this was an opportunity we couldn’t refuse,” Nissler added. "To minimize service disruptions, we're giving patrons plenty of notice so they can make alternative arrangements in the interim.”

While the library is closed, the following Golden Library Storytimes will be temporarily relocated to the First United Methodist Church at 1500 Ford Street in Golden:

    • Toddler Storytime: 10:15 a.m., Tuesdays (Nov. 8, 15, 22, 29 & Dec. 6, 13)
    • Babytime: 10:15 a.m., Wednesdays (Nov. 9, 16, 23, 30 & Dec. 7, 14)
    • All Ages Storytime 11 a.m., Thursdays (Nov. 10, 17 & Dec. 1, 8, 15)

The book return at the Golden Library will also be closed during this time, and Golden Library patrons will be asked to return their library materials to other JCPL locations. In addition, book donations will not be accepted at the Golden Library while it is closed. Other JCPL libraries in central Jefferson County, including Lakewood, Belmar, Arvada, Edgewater and Wheat Ridge, are gearing up for increased patron traffic, and Golden Library employees will be reassigned to other locations to accommodate increased demand.

The Golden Library will provide services as usual through Thursday, Nov. 3 and is expected to reopen for business on Saturday, Dec. 17.
