Jefferson County Public Library Names Donna Walker Director of Library Programs and Services

Jefferson County Public Library (JCPL) announced today that it has named Donna Walker to the position of director, library programs and services, effective May 1, 2012.

“We are pleased that Donna will be joining us,” said Pam Nissler, executive director, JCPL. “She brings an impressive track record of innovation, outreach and positive community outcomes and will help us to achieve new levels of excellence in library programs and services.”

“I’m delighted to be joining JCPL,” Walker said. “I look forward to working with the team to explore new service models, strengthen community relationships and eventually, restore and expand library services in Jefferson County.”

Walker comes to JCPL from Arapahoe Library District (ALD) in Arapahoe County, Colo. From 2005 to the present, she served as manager of neighborhood libraries, outreach services and child and family library services for ALD, managing library operations for four library branches, outreach services (including mobile libraries, home delivery, Spanish and Russian services, and services to new Americans) and enterprise-wide services for children and families. From 1998 to 2004, she served as manager of circulation services for the Koelbel Library and was responsible for District-wide circulation services.

In 2011, Walker was named a “Mover and Shaker” by Library Journal in an annual award program that spotlights librarians who are doing extraordinary work to move libraries and library services forward. She is a member of the American Library Association, the Public Library Association and Colorado Libraries for Early Literacy; she has completed leadership programs sponsored by the Public Library Association and Mountain States Employers Council; and she has presented at numerous state, national, and international conferences on library outreach and innovations. Walker received a Master of Library and Information Science degree from the University of Washington in Seattle, a Master of Arts degree in English from the University of Denver and a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Elmhurst College in Elmhurst, Ill.

Walker replaces Pam Nissler, who was named executive director of JCPL in January.
