Rocky Flats and a Metropolitan Beltway

When the Rocky Flats National Wildlife Refuge Act was adopted by Congress in 2001, a 300-foot strip was set aside on the eastern edge of the refuge for the construction of a future regional transportation corridor – specifically for the metropolitan beltway.

A recent article in the Arvada Report, published by the city of Arvada, details how neighboring cities and counties in the Rocky Flats Coalition of Local Governments and the Rocky Flats Stewardship Council have worked to ensure the ongoing health and safety of residents living in proximity to Rocky Flats, and how mitigation efforts and testing included that 300 feet of transportation corridor.

See the full article published in the June/July 2012 issue of The Arvada Report.
