Spring Whale of a Used Book Sale Splashes Down June 1-3

The Jefferson County Library Foundation and friends have scheduled their annual Spring Whale of a Used Book Sale for June 1-3, at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds, 15200 W. 6th Ave. in Golden. Hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, June 1-2, and 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday, June 3. Admission to the sale is free. Proceeds from the sale benefit children and teen literacy programs at Jefferson County Public Library.

Booklovers can choose from more than 100,000 gently used books, DVDs, audiobooks and videos with prices from 50 cents to $2.50. It’s like a treasure hunt! Find your favorite authors and discover new ones.

Saturday is Family Fun Day. Face painters and a craft activity will be featured for kids from 11 a.m.–3 p.m. Saturday only!

A collection of rare, old, better and just plain odd books, all of which are individually priced, can be found in Bert's Curiosity Corner. Books on Colorado history and the Old West are always a big hit. This year we have a large collection of early science fiction.

“We love putting books in the hands of our community,” said Natalie Martinez, executive director of the Jefferson County Library Foundation. “It’s great when young children find a cherished book by their favorite author for 50 cents or a dollar. Our Whale Sales make book ownership affordable and fun for all. At the same time, this sale is expected to generate more than $55,000 to help support reading programs for children and teens at Jefferson County Public Library.”

Don’t miss Sunday; it is “Bag Day” where $5 buys as many items as you can fit in a grocery bag. Be a good neighbor to Mother Earth and bring your own bag to promote our “Going Green” effort.

To volunteer for the sale or for additional information, call 303-403-5075 or email friends@jeffcolibrary.org.
