Mark Danner Chosen as New Facilities and Construction Managment Director

Jefferson County has chosen Mark Danner to be the director of the Facilities and Construction Management Division. He will lead a division that provides asset management, operations and maintenance of 40 separate sites that include 50 primary owned county buildings and 10 leased facilities totaling more than a million square feet.

Facilities and Construction Management oversees the design and construction of major county facilities such as the expansion and remodeling project at the Sheriff’s complex, which includes replacing the central plant, adding a new state-of-the-art crime lab and evidence storage, enlarging a court holding area and increasing administrative space. It is also in the process of remodeling the Parfet building adjacent to the county-owned Remington Building on 6th Avenue, which will house the Public Health Department’s administrative, environmental health and clinical staff.

Facilities and Construction Management also manages cell towers and vacant lands and handles more that 10,000 work orders and reservations for county facilities each year.

Danner was chosen for his facility and construction management experience, which includes directing the Jefferson County Fairgrounds for the last 15 years plus an additional 15 years as a supervisor in Jeffco Open Space.

Jeffco Fairgrounds currently hosts more than 1,750 events and 11,000 campground reservations annually. As Fairgrounds director, he is most proud of:

    • Implementing a master plan and providing oversight in the design, planning, construction and administration of capital improvements including five new buildings, several remodeled buildings, a new campground, picnic pavilion, playground, parking lots and offices.

    • Increasing annual event and facility revenue from $83,000 per year to $484,000.

    • Developing a vendor program and community/business partnerships. An agreement with PepsiCo that provides annual sponsorship funds, on-going product and vending rebates is an example of many agreements.

    • Working with ITS to migrate all fairgrounds event management processes to a cloud based program to include IPad technology, which allows for real-time management of event files and processes.

Kate Newman, deputy county administrator, said “Mark has an outstanding background of accomplishments, is visionary and very willing to try new ideas and techniques. He will bring valuable knowledge, skills and leadership to the FACM division.”

County Administrator Ralph Schell, added, “I’ve worked closely with Mark for many years, when he supervised operations in Open Space and when he provided the leadership that put the Jeffco Fairgrounds on a path to financial stability. He is extremely capable and I am confident in his ability to lead the Facilities and Construction Management division.”

Danner earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology with a minor in biology from the University of Northern Iowa. Raised on a family farm in Iowa, he is one of nine children. He and his wife, Gretchen, have been married for 29 years and have two sons. Seth, 23, is graduating from Colorado State University this month and Paul, 21, is a junior at Iowa State University. The family enjoys camping and has camped in more than 20 of this country’s national parks.
