Jefferson County's Building Safety Division issued the first contractor license in Jeffco and it was earned by one of its own employees. The contractor license was issued to Henry Mifflin of Jefferson County Open Space. Mifflin acquired a Class A General Contractor License, which he will use for Jeffco Open Space projects. Mifflin assisted the Building Safety Division with a soft rollout of the program in December and the formal implementation started Jan. 1, 2014. Licensing will help streamline closing out permits smoothly, efficiently and avoid expiring permits .Requirements for New Licenses and RenewalsThe requirements and conditions for issuance of a Jefferson County Contractors License include:
Licenses are good for one year and must be renewed annually. Contractors holding valid licenses, who apply for renewal, cannot have any unresolved building code issues (expired permit, expired temporary certificate of occupancy, illegal occupancy, etc.) connected with building permits issued to or on behalf of the contractor licensee at time of renewal. A contractor is anyone who engages in any type of work for compensation for which a building or mechanical permit is required. People who are not considered to be contractors are the property owner, a laborer working under the supervision of a contractor, people who are performing labor or repair work on their own property, an employee of the property owner who performs full-time maintenance or repair work on the owner's property, and state-licensed plumbers or electricians. To learn more about the program, visit www.jeffco.us/building.
