  • “Be Kind to Animals” Poster Contest

Be Kind to Animals Poster WinnerEach year, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Animal Control Section holds its annual "Be Kind to Animals" poster contest for elementary school students in unincorporated Jefferson County.  Animal Control sponsors the competition to help promote National Be Kind to Animals Week. Elementary school children are encouraged to incorporate their ideas of what it means to be kind to animals into a poster design.

A panel of judges chooses a first-, second- and third-place winner from each class that entered the contest. The panel includes animal control officers, Sheriff's Office staff and representatives from the Foothills Animal Shelter. Ribbons are awarded to each winner and all winning posters are displayed in various Jefferson County government buildings during Be Kind to Animals Week (May 4-10).

The 25th "Be Kind to Animals" poster winner was Alexandra Vogt.  Alexandra is a fourth grader at Coronado Elementary.  A total of 1,909 posters were submitted from 24 schools.

For information about joining the contest, visit the press release, or contact Sharon Wright, Animal Control supervisor at the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, at 303-271-5083.
