    Competitive Salary

    Salaries for all positions are competitive with any other law enforcement agency in the state. Annual increases are based on merit.

    Health, Disability, Dental

    Choice of several programs ranging from HMOs to PPOs. Employees can select the plan that best suits their needs.

    Retirement

    Participation in Jefferson County's 401(a) retirement plan begins on the employee's date of hire. The county matches up to 9 percent of retirement contributions by sworn personnel, and up to 8 percent of contributions by nonsworn personnel. Jefferson County also offers optional 457 deferred compensation plans.

    Paid Holidays

    Because the calendar year has several legal holidays, and the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office must maintain service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, earned holiday time may be taken any time during the year, as scheduling permits.

    Vacation

    A minimum of eight hours per month is earned at the beginning of employment. Vacation time then increases on an established scale based on years of service. Vacation time is cumulative over more than one year, up to a predetermined total of hours.

    Sick Leave

    This time is earned at the rate of ten hours per month.
