• Deputy Hugs Program

Deputy Hugs Program for troubled childrenStudies have shown that no single object calms a troubled child as quickly as a teddy bear. "Deputy Hugs" bears work with the Victim Services Unit, comforting frightened young victims of crisis or crime.

The program, which began in 1991, works as follows: for a donation of $20, you can adopt "Deputy HUGS" for yourself or your child. At the same time, your donation will bring a "Deputy Hugs" into the life of a child in need.

Deputies carry the bears in their patrol cars and give them to troubled children whenever appropriate.

Our "Adopt-a-Bear for a Child's Sake" program takes community participation to be successful. Thank you for your support.

    Joseph's Story

The start of 12-year-old Joseph's life has not been an easy one and yet somehow he has maintained not only a positive attitude but a strong sense of wanting to give back to his community. After stopping by one of our precincts to talk with deputies and Victim Advocates Joseph decided to raise money for the Deputy Hugs Program. Joseph is now asking for your help to reach his goal:

"Hi, my name is Joseph. I am collecting donations for the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office and their Deputy Hugs program. They give stuffed teddy bears to kids who are having troubles. The bears help keep them calm and let them know someone cares about them. This is important to me because I want to help and make a difference in my life. I understand how these kids feel because I have been through this too. My goal is to raise $1,000, which is 50 teddy bears. Thank you for helping me and kids who are victims of domestic violence."

If you would like to donate in honor of Joseph's mission please indicate 'Joseph's Drive' in the message box using the above donation methods. Thank you Joseph!
