Due to House Bill 14-1166 that went into effect March 14, 2014, you must submit a concealed handgun permit application (new and renewal) to the county sheriff's office where you reside, own property, or own a business. If you currently have a concealed handgun permit with Jefferson County and now live in another county, you must renew your permit with that county. No exceptions will be made.It is the applicant's responsibility to submit for renewal of concealed handgun permit within 120-days before the expiration date on the permit card. If your permit is more than six months expired you must begin the process with a new application, to include submitting the $100 new application fee.
Application and supplemental form must be submitted in person to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Records Unit (200 Jefferson County Pkwy., Golden) Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Once approved, you will be contacted to come in for a new photo. At that time, you will receive a new permit card in exchange for the old one. Please note that permit cards are property of the sheriff's office and old permits must be returned.
As long as your permit is with JCSO, you do not need another training certificate. The 'proof of firearms training' requirement on the back of the application does not pertain to JCSO renewal applicants.
