    Shooting in south JeffCo

Jefferson County, CO. – On January 24, 2016 at 9:05 a.m., the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office received a call reporting a disturbance in the 5400 block of S. Taft Ct. Immediately following that call, numerous other 911 calls were received stating that shots were fired in the same area. When deputies arrived, they discovered a SUV had crashed into a home down the block from the address where shots were fired. The adult male that was driving the SUV had been shot and was transported to the hospital.

The location of the shooting was a residence where the homeowner had posted items for sale on Craigslist. The homeowner reported that two Hispanic males arrived to see the items that were for sale. At some point during the interaction, the males produced a gun, restrained the homeowner, and robbed him. The two men then exited the residence. The homeowner was able to free himself and confront the suspects outside. One suspect was in the victim’s vehicle and was in the process of stealing it. The other suspect was in a 90’s gold Mustang. The homeowner fired several shots at the suspects in front of the house. The Mustang fled the area, while the victim’s stolen vehicle came to rest in a neighbor’s yard.

The suspect received medical attention at the scene and was transported to St. Anthony’s Central Hospital where he died a short time later. The suspect’s identity is not being released.

The Sheriff’s Office is still searching for the gold Mustang, driven by a Hispanic male in his forties. Anyone with information regarding this crime is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office tip line at 303-271-5612 or Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-STOP (7867).
