A Great Place to Work
Diverse Opportunities
Jefferson County, Colorado is nestled between a world-class city and the storied Rocky Mountains. Its unique geographic area includes densely populated suburban centers and rural, rugged mountain regions. These factors combine to make for a wealth and diversity of job opportunities at the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office. For example, a deputy may spend part of his or her career tracking drug activity in and around suburban Jefferson County, and later may live and work as a resident deputy in Jeffco's rural mountains. Meanwhile, the Jefferson County Jail offers a very different set of career options, and more than half of the agency's employees work in the many areas of the detention facility.
On the Cutting Edge
The department ensures that it remains on the cutting edge in its equipment, vehicles, training and procedures. In recent years, the Sheriff's Office has outfitted its special units with fully-equipped vehicles such as an armored personnel carrier and operational truck for the Bomb Squad; a K-9 trailer; a SWAT command bus; a criminalistics van; and a Sno-Cat for snow rescues. The county jail was rated highly by accreditors from the American Correctional Association, who reported, "The staff are provided with an abundance of state-of-the-art equipment." Better equipment means a greater ability to provide high quality law enforcement and detention services to our community.
A Culture of Professionalism
A commitment to modern principles of community policing, along with a proactive take on crime prevention, means a professional and engaged workforce. From line-level staff all the way to the sheriff, we are accountable for partnering with citizens to solve crime and quality-of-life problems in their communities. Further, our employees are held to the highest standards of professional integrity. An Internal Affairs office thoroughly investigates citizen complaints against employees, while public information officers follow a judicious media policy set forth by the department.
Jeffco: A Great Place to Live and Work
