Behind the Badge: A Message From Sheriff Ted Mink
In April, the Sheriff's Office added a crime mapping tool to its Web site, www.jeffcosheriff.com. The new mapping program allows users to enter their home's address and view certain crimes reported in the immediate area. Users may search all areas of unincorporated Jefferson County, using variable search parameters such as time span and size of search area.
This crime mapping tool is just one of the many resources we are working to provide the public. We believe that the more informed residents are, the safer they are. Here are some more resources:
Web site
We strive to make our Web site as information-rich as possible. The site contains comprehensive sections on crime prevention, community programs, jail information, career opportunities, and obtaining case reports and other records.
E-mail alerts
The Sheriff's Office sends out timely e-mail alerts about crime, crime trends and public safety issues affecting the north, south and mountain areas of unincorporated Jefferson County. You can sign up to receive e-mail alerts on our Web site's homepage.
Behind the Badge archive
The Behind the Badge archive on our Web site goes back to 2003 and involves a wealth of information on crime prevention and services provided by our office.
Brochures
If you're looking for information on a specific topic, like graffiti, identity theft, domestic violence, sex offenders or problem barking, you can find all of them on our Web site in a printable PDF tri-fold brochure format. Each brochure is created in-house with information specific to Jefferson County. Hard copies are available at our three precincts.
Sex offender database
Just one episode of Dateline's "To Catch a Predator" is enough to panic any parent. To view a map and detailed information on registered sex offenders living in unincorporated Jefferson County, visit our Web site. For lists of offenders within Jeffco's cities, contact your nearest municipal police department.
2006: A Look Back
The Sheriff's Office annual report provides an overview of the agency's major crimes, programs and statistics in 12 photo-filled pages. Annual reports can be viewed online or picked up at any of our three locations. If you would like to receive one in the mail, please send an e-mail to aburns@jeffco.us.
Crime Prevention & deputy liaisons
Crime Prevention deputies and your HOA's deputy liaison can be valuable resources on many subjects. You may contact your deputy liaison through your HOA board. To contact Crime Prevention in south Jeffco, call 720-377-2002. For north Jeffco/mountains, call 303-271-5363.
