1. How can I get a copy of a case report?

2. How do I go about claiming my property?
Call the Evidence Vault at 303-271-5656, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, to make an appointment. Property must be released by the investigating deputy after which the owner can claim his/her property by coming to the Evidence Vault. Photo identification is required.
3. I turned in a bike I found. If it isn't claimed, can I have it?
Found property is held for 90 days. If property is not claimed, the finder can have the property if approved by the sheriff or his representative.
4. What is the curfew ordinance during the school year?
By county ordinance 5.95.1, minors under 18 years of age have a curfew of 11 p.m., Sunday through Thursday, and midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. The curfew is in effect throughout the year. Read more about curfew >>

7. How do I sign up for a ride-along in a deputy's patrol car?
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office ride-along program offers the opportunity for interested citizens to accompany a deputy during his or her shift on patrol. Please visit our ride-along page for more information.
8. How can I obtain information on sex offenders?
Jefferson County Sheriff's Office maintains listings for registered sex offenders residing in unincorporated Jefferson County. Citizens can access a free list by visiting our homepage and clicking on the sex offender link; this online list adheres to state law restrictions.
To obtain a list in person, visit one of the Sheriff's Office three locations. Customers must provide photo identification and must complete an Application for Criminal Justice Records form. There is a $5 fee for the list. Listings available are for offenders registered in unincorporated Jefferson County only.
9. How do I visit with or send mail to someone in jail?
The Detention Facility is located at 200 Jefferson County Parkway in Golden (enter from the upper west parking lot). Jail visitations are 9 to 10:30 a.m., 1 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 8:30 p.m., Sunday through Saturday. The Detention Facility main lobby is open 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Sunday through Saturday.

10. How do I send a thank you or a commendation to an employee of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office?

11. How do I file a complaint against an employee of the Sheriff's Office?
The Sheriff's Office accepts all comments and complaints regarding its employees or its procedures, and complainants may remain anonymous. The Internal Affairs Unit investigates all complaints and allegations of employee misconduct. Complaints can be taken by phone at 303-271-5315. You may also make a complaint in person at the Internal Affairs Unit at the Sheriff's Office. Written complaints should be addressed to:

13. How can I get a verification of a VIN (vehicle identification number)?
If you live in unincorporated Jefferson County, call Dispatch at 303-277-0211. You must have the VIN verification form available from Division of Motor Vehicles and proof of vehicle ownership. Other resources include Colorado State Patrol and emissions stations.

15. What can I do about abandoned vehicles?
Please call our non-emergency number at 303-277-0211. If the vehicle is on county public property, a sheriff's deputy will tag the vehicle. After three days, it will be towed. Along state highways, Colorado State Patrol will tag, then tow the vehicle. On private property, the property owner can call a tow company to remove the vehicle. The Sheriff's Office will not tow from private property.

18. How can I send money to an inmate?
There are two ways to get money to an inmate in the Jefferson County Detention Facility. The first is to come in to the jail (at 200 Jefferson County Parkway, Golden) and put money on the books for the inmate. The second is to mail a United States Postal Service money order, made payable to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Detention Services Division (with the inmate's name on it in the memo field). You may mail it to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office at P.O. Box 16700, Golden, CO 80402. Bank money orders and personal checks are not accepted.
19. What can I do about barking dogs on my street?

20. How do I get a protection order (formerly called a restraining order)? How do I get rid of one?
In many criminal cases, protection orders are mandatory. However, without a criminal case, or if the court does not order a protection order in a specific criminal case, you can apply for a civil protection order. To do this, visit the self help desk at the Jefferson County Courts and Administration Building (100 Jefferson County Parkway). You will be required to complete an application, pay a fee, and be heard by a judge or magistrate on the matter. The fee will be waived for victims of domestic violence. If you are a victim of domestic violence or sexual assault, you may find further assistance by visiting the victim/witness center in the same building. A protection order clinic is available for these victims at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on weekdays. To drop a criminal protection order, please contact the district attorney or victim/witness specialist assigned to your case. You may not be permitted to drop a criminal protection order until the case is completed. To drop a civil protection order, please contact the clerk's office from where the order was granted.
21. Can I donate my old cell phone? What about stuffed animals?
The Sheriff's Office accepts used cell phones and donates them to the elderly and victims of violence through a nonprofit called 911 Cell Phone Bank. Please bring your used cell phone to any Sheriff's Office building. The Sheriff's Office does not accept donations of stuffed animals for its Deputy Hugs program, but financial donations are welcome.
22. My checkbook/credit cards/driver's license was stolen. What do I do now?

27. How can I dispose of ammunition or firearms?
The Sheriff's Office will accept ammunition and firearms for destruction. Sheriff's Office bomb technicians will accept and destroy military ordnance, civilian ammunition and all types of firearms. Please contact the Sheriff's Office at 303-277-0211 and ask for the full-time Bomb Squad bomb technician. Or, you may contact evidence specialists at 303-271-5656. Please contact us in advance if you plan to drop off weapons and/or ammunition. When arriving at the Sheriff's Office, please leave all items in your vehicle upon entering the building. A deputy will go with you to your vehicle to retrieve the items.
28. There is a registered sex offender in my neighborhood and I would like to educate myself on how to handle this. Also, what do I tell my children?
