Records
The Records Unit processes criminal records. Records is responsible for processing, maintaining, retrieving and releasing information and copies of reports in accordance with federal and state regulations and guidelines.

Services Provided
Following is a list of services provided and corresponding fees. The Records Unit accepts cash, personal checks, MasterCard or Visa. Services with an asterisk (*) are available at our south and mountain substations.
Copies of Police Reports (Case Reports)*
Customers must show photo identification, provide as much pertinent information as possible, and complete an Application for Criminal Justice Records form. Reports cannot always be released per federal and state regulations and guidelines and it may take up to three working days to process your request. The fee for case reports is $5 for the first 10 pages, and $0.25 for each additional page. These fees also apply to copies of jail documents.

Fingerprinting*
Fingerprinting services are provided for residents of unincorporated Jefferson County only. Residents of unincorporated Jefferson County must have photo identification. The fee for this service is $10 for the first two cards and $5 for each additional card.

The Livescan system at the Sheriff's Office headquarters in Golden is completely ink free, so visitors to this location need not provide a fingerprint card. A fingerprinting information form will be provided and must be completed in person.
Residents who would like to visit our South Precinct or Mountain Precinct to be fingerprinted must provide a fingerprint card (usually provided by the employer or group requesting fingerprints). These two locations take fingerprints using ink.
Liquor Licenses
Applicants can submit a completed application package obtained from the Jefferson County Commissioners' Office for processing. The fee is $38.50 made payable to the Colorado Bureau of Investigations. Personal checks are not accepted -- only payment by money order, business check or cashier's/certified check.
Records Check/Background Check*
An Application for Criminal Justice Records form (above) must be completed and as much pertinent information as possible must be provided, including name and date of birth. Applicants must show photo identification. The fee for this service is $10 per name search.
Obtain a List of Area Sex Offenders*
Jefferson County Sheriff's Office maintains registered sex offender listings for individuals residing in unincorporated Jefferson County. Citizens can access a free list by visiting our homepage and clicking on the sex offender link; this online list adheres to state law restrictions regarding misdemeanors and juvenile offenders.
To obtain a list in person, visit one of the Sheriff's Office three locations. Customers must provide photo identification and must complete an Application for Criminal Justice Records form (above). The fee for a sex offender registration list is $5. Listings available are for offenders registered in unincorporated Jefferson County only.
Register as a Sex Offender
If you have been ordered to register as a sex offender, you may do so at the Sheriff's Office headquarters, Records section. Effective March 1, 2008, the Sheriff's Office began charging a processing fee for sex offender registrants, pursuant to state law CRS 16-22-108 (7). The initial registration fee is $50; re-registration is $25, and change of address is $25. Fees must be paid in cash, check, Visa or MasterCard. Failure to register and pay the fee may result in a criminal charge for failure to register. For more information, please call 303-271-5855.
Photographs*
Mug shots and some other photographs may be available. Customers must provide photo identification and must complete an Application for Criminal Justice Records form (above). Fees vary. A $5 non-refundable fee applies to multiple photos provided on a CD.
Dispatch Recordings
Customers must provide photo identification and must complete an Application for Dispatch Recordings. Fee: $25 for the first recording; $10 each additional recording. A $10 non-refundable fee applies for all requests.
Concealed Weapon Permits (CCW)*
For information on obtaining a Concealed Weapon Permit, please visit our CCW page. Applications are accepted Tuesdays and Thursdays only, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Please note: personal checks are not accepted for CCW fees. Blank CCW applications may be obtained from any of our three locations, but may only be submitted at our headquarters location in Golden.
Location/Address Search
Customers must provide photo identification and must complete an Application for Criminal Justice Records form (above) with the address to be searched and specific timeframe. Fee: $5 per location/address search.
Arrest Dates
Customers must provide photo identification and must complete an Application for Criminal Justice Records form (above) to include name and date of birth. Fee is $3 per printout.
Crime Statistics
Customers must provide photo identification and must complete an Application for Criminal Justice Records form (above) with as much pertinent information as possible. Fee is $5 but can vary based on the complexity of the request. The Jefferson County Sheriff?s Office Web site also has a new crime mapping tool to allow citizens to view the numbers and types of crimes in all areas of unincorporated Jefferson County.
Records Research
This applies to requests not covered in the standard fee schedule. It includes required personnel, equipment and resources for the search, retrieval, redaction and manipulation of data as required. Customers must provide photo identification and must complete an Application for Criminal Justice Records form (above) with as much pertinent information as possible. Fee is $14 per hour plus additional fees for copies as applicable.
